Burn Scar Camouflage in Sacramento: camoglam® Featured on Good Day Sacramento

April 28, 20264 min read

Yesterday was so much fun! Ryan Nelson from Good Day Sacramento stopped by camoglam beauty inc.® in Sacramento to learn more about scar camouflage, scar cover up tattooing, or paramedical tattooing— and to see the process firsthand.

For the segment, I worked with my client Julie, who has lived with a burn scar for more than 20 years. I was able to custom color match her skin tone and camouflage the lighter areas of her scar using specialized skin-tone pigments.

So many people spend years searching for scar removal, burn scar treatments, or ways to cover up a scar without realizing that scar camouflage tattooing exists. Getting to share this option with Good Day Sacramento was such a cool experience.

What Is a Scar Camouflage Tattoo?

A scar camouflage tattoo, sometimes searched for as a scar cover up tattoo, skin color tattoo for scars, or medical tattooing for scars, is a specialized form of paramedical tattooing.

Unlike a traditional tattoo that covers a scar with a design, scar camouflage uses pigments that are custom mixed to closely match the surrounding skin.

The goal is to reduce the color contrast between the scar and the surrounding skin, helping the scar appear less noticeable.

At camoglam beauty inc.®, there isn’t one premixed “skin color” that works for everyone. Every client’s skin is different.

I look at the client’s skin tone, undertones, surrounding pigmentation, and the scar tissue itself to create a custom color match specifically for their skin.

Camouflaging a 20+ Year Old Burn Scar

Julie has had her burn scar for more than two decades.

During the segment, Ryan was able to see how detailed the color-matching process is before pigment ever goes into the skin.

Scar tissue behaves differently than normal skin, which is why scar camouflage tattooing requires specialized training, an understanding of color theory, and experience working with scar tissue.

It isn’t as simple as putting skin-colored ink over a scar. The pigment has to be carefully selected and implanted with the healed result in mind.

Is Scar Camouflage the Same as Scar Removal?

No. This is an important difference.

Many people search online for scar removal when what they ultimately want is for their scar to be less noticeable.

Scar camouflage does not remove the scar itself or erase scar texture. Instead, for the right candidate, paramedical tattooing can help reduce the visible color difference between a scar and the surrounding skin.

That’s why you may see this type of treatment referred to as a scar cover up tattoo, scar camouflage tattoo, medical tattooing, skin camouflage tattoo, or paramedical tattooing.

If you’ve been looking into scar removal treatments because your scar is lighter than the surrounding skin, scar camouflage may be another option worth considering.

What Types of Scars Can Be Camouflaged?

Every scar is different, and not every scar is ready or appropriate for camouflage.

Scar camouflage may be an option for certain:

  • Burn scars

  • Surgical scars

  • Tummy tuck scars

  • Breast lift or breast surgery scars

  • Arm lift scars

  • Injury or trauma scars

  • Self-harm scars

  • Hypopigmented scars

  • Stretch marks

Before camouflage, the scar needs to be evaluated to determine whether the tissue is ready for treatment. Scars that are still red, purple, actively changing, or have significant texture may not be candidates yet.

I founded camoglam beauty inc.®in Sacramento specializing in stretch mark and scar camouflage.

What started with my own search for a solution for a scar has grown into being able to help people with scars and stretch marks from surgeries, burns, injuries, pregnancy, weight changes, and other life experiences.

Being featured on Good Day Sacramento was especially meaningful because there are still so many people who have never heard of scar camouflage or don’t realize this type of treatment is available right here in Sacramento.
